The Southwood football season came to an end Friday as the Knights fell to Adams Central 23-7 in the regional.
Adams Central took the opening kick off and consumed 8 minutes and 8 seconds on a 16 play drive to grab a 7-0 lead with 3:52 on the clock, but it didn’t take the Knights long to answer the score. Driving the length of the field the Knights were held on four downs inside the five, but were given an extra play on a holding call. Southwood would take advantage of the penalty with Carson Blair finding Blake Martz from 2yds out to tie the score with 49.4 left in the quarter.
The two defenses would dominate the second quarter with the lone score coming off an intentional grounding call on the Knights from the end zone for a safety. Adams Central led 9-7 at the half.
The third quarter went scoreless as the Knights defense kept the potent Flying Jets running game in check while Adams Central had Blair scrambling for his life. Adams Central would score early in the fourth on a 1yd run with 10:35 to go to increase their lead to 16-7, then put the nail in the coffin with 2:32 left on a 2yd run for the 23-7 final.
