Spartans predicted for top five finish

NORTH MANCHESTER, IND. – A quartet of individuals named to the Players to Watch section and 53 ranking points highlighted a top five prediction for Manchester University’s women’s tennis program on the 2017 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference preseason coaches’ poll, released Tuesday, Aug. 22.

The Black and Gold’s ranking point total left them fourth, trailing only preseason favorite and defending champion Rose-Hulman (77 points – five first place votes); Hanover College (75 points – three first-place votes); and Franklin College (63 points). Coach Eric Christiansen’s veteran core of Class of 208 members Erin Cordill (Zionsville, Ind.)Katie Peden (North Manchester, Ind.)Katy Ashpole (Leesburg, Ind.) and Mariam Ali (Giza, Egypt) represented the Spartans among the Players to Watch list.

Manchester University opens the 2017 fall season Saturday, Sept. 2, with a non-conference clash at Franklin.
