Southwood Boys Cross Country

The Knights hosted the Southwood Classic on a hot Tuesday evening at White’s. Hattie Cochran led the junior high girls with a time of 17:21, good enough for 37th place. Maddison Hunter was close behind with a time of 19:12, finishing in 4th place.

The Southwood Knights competed in the first meet of the season in a 3 way match against Oak Hill and Manchester. With only 6 runners eligible to run during the early season meet, the Knights pulled out a solid performance against 2 very respectable opponents.

Braden Sweet led the Knights with an overall 2nd place finish in a time of 18:08. Senior veteran, Chase Guenin pulled in 4th place in a time of 19:01. Ben and Zach Roudebush took over as the 3rd and 4th runners for the Knights, placing 15th (20:59) and 17th (21:56). Alix Winer rounded out the scoring with an 18th place finish in 22:15. Carson Kelley ran as the Knight’s 6th man, placing 20th in a time of 24:14.

The Knights cross country team took to the course last Saturday in their 2nd meet of the season at the Northfield Invitational. The men brought home a 2nd place finish in a field of 11 teams represented.

Setting the pace for the Knights was Braden Sweet and Chase Guenin. Both young men ran away from the rest of the field placing 1st and 2nd overall; both setting a new Personal Record. Braden raced over the course in 17:13, shattering his first meet time by 50 seconds. On the heels of Braden, Chase set a new PR of 17:17 in only the 2nd meet out of the season.
In his first competitive meet of the season, Cayden Prickett placed 13th with a time of 18:56. Alix Winer stepped up to run as the teams 4th man, blowing away his previous time and setting a new PR of 19:59. Ben Roudebush rounded out the scoring for the Knights, placing 30th in 20:30. Backing up the top 5 were Landon Topliff in 20:41.8; Lamoine Silvers in 20:41.9; and Zach Roudeboush in 20:42. Zack also set a new PR with his 34th place finish. Carson Kelley ran an exceptional race, improving his previous time by over 2 minutes and setting a new PR of 21:15. Weslee Nelson, a newcomer to cc, improved his previous time by more than 3 minutes by also setting a new PR of 23:04.

These gentlemen will be a team to keep your eye on as they continue to develop throughout this cross country season. The Knights travel to IWU on Saturday to compete in the 20th Annual Marion / IWU Invitational.
