Spartans take southeastern journey for first meet

The Mt. St. Joseph University Fall Invitational and Miami Whitewater Golf Course in Harrison, Ohio, await Manchester University for its first 2017-18 competition Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 2 and 3.

Tourney details: The Spartans take to their first tee assignments beginning at approximately 12:46 p.m. Saturday. Sunday’s second round start times will be determined by the individual and team standings through 18 holes.

Spartan Shorts: There is anticipation in the Black and Gold camp as the fall opener approaches. Head coach Tara Boone has a strong core of returners to go with five first years with impressive resumes … “(The returners) understand the expectations we have inside and outside of practices and tournaments,” Boone said. “I think they will step in and lead right away. Our freshmen have good high school statistics, but until they get a feel for college golf, it is a bit of an unknown. I know myself, and the team is very excited about the possibilities.” … Representing the Spartans team-wise Saturday and Sunday will be seniors Kaitlin Powers (Indianapolis, Ind.) and Katie Smith (Wabash, Ind.), junior Haleigh Fernandez (Selma, Ind.) and freshmen Taylor Erfman (Brookeville, Ind.) and Kaitlyn Cook (Monticello, Ind.) due to qualifying round results from last weekend. The remaining team members will compete individually.
