Squire Tennis Falls To Bluffton

The Manchester Tennis Team competed with a very good Bluffton team onTuesday night, but came up a little short as the Tigers took the match 4-1. “We played with great effort tonight against a team that is now 7-2 in the area and a team that has beat us pretty soundly the last few years. We couldn’t quite find that next level or that high level consistency needed to beat a good team,” said Head Coach Eric Screeton Bluffton took four of the five matches, but they had to earn them in some tight, competitive sets. The Tigers started the action with wins at #2 Sinlges as McClish beat Spence Trick 6-1, 6-1 and #3 Singles Rylie Johnston defeated Kyle Shepherd 6-4, 6-4. Bluffton got the best of the Squires in some highly competitive doubles matches as well. #1 Doubles team of Eisenhut and Heller beat Parker Wagoner and Logan Parrett 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) in a second set tiebreaker and #2 Doubles team of Hiday and Christal defeated Kam Lester and Uria Hein 6-2, 7-6 (10-8) as Lester and Hein fought off seven match points before finally going down. The marathon match of the evening went to #1 Singles Luke Donathan as he fought back to defeat Baumgartner 4-6, 6-1, 6-3, making sure the Squires did not leave the night empty handed. “Luke was awesome tonight and I thought we were going to win a couple of those tight second sets out there and force a third, where anything can happen, but Bluffton did a nice job finishing the night,” added Screeton. The Squires will not
have time to rest as the Huntington North Vikings come to town, tomorrow night (Wed, 8/30) starting at 5:00.
