The Manchester Tennis Team was defeated by a motivated Huntington North Viking team on Wednesday night by the score of 5-0. “We played with some effort, but our focus, mental toughness, and execution was not at a level of winning tennis,” said Head Coach Eric Screeton. Some injuries and soreness created a slightly different lineup for Manchester against a hungry Huntington North team, which used some passionate tennis to take down the Squires. A couple singles matches went quickly for the Vikings as #1 Auden Eckert beat Spence Trick and #3 Thomas Schweller defeated Quinn Martin by the scores of 6-0, 6-1. The #2 Doubles team of Jarrett Gray and Adam Zahn would win the match for the Vikings in convincing fashion against Kam Lester and Uria Hein 6-4, 6-1. The Squires did manage to force a couple tough three setters, as #2 Singles Noah Zahn outlasted Parker Wagoner 6-3, 5-7 ,6-3 and #1 Doubles Spencer Atkinson and Clark Kitchen defeated Logan Parrett and Luke Donathan 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 to close out the sweep for the Vikings. “Tough night for our squad, but we will respond. I would like to mention the continued hard work of newcomers Drake Hatfield and Grant Strobel as they once again won their JV contests,” added Screeton. The Squires will participate in an8-team tournament this Saturday (9/2) at West Noble starting at 9:00am.
