Wabash Wins County Volleyball Battle Over Manchester

The Wabash and Manchester volleyball teams hooked up in a county battle Thursday with the Lady Apaches winning 25-21, 27-25, 16-25, 25-12.

Wabash would jump on Manchester early in game one, scoring the first 6 points of the game off kills from Brooke Irgang and Tabitha Wagner. The Irgang sisters, Brooke and Sam also teamed up on a block. Up 7-2 Wagner would record a kill and two aces as the lead grew to 11-3 before the Squires started to work their way back. Kennidy Lauer would get a kill, followed by Kara Kline as Manchester cut the Wabash lead to 12-9. The Apaches would go back to Wagner and Sam Irgang to score 7 of the next 8 points to open a 19-11 lead, but again the Squires would work their way back to 24-21 before Brooke Irgang ended the game with a kill for a 25-21 win.

It looked like Wabash was going to run away with game two. Trailing 3-4 the Apaches would go on a 10-0 run aided by two Wagner aces and a kill from Brooke Irgang to lead 13-6 before the Squires went on a run of their own. Kline would get two kills and a block as Manchester scored 8 straight to taker a 14-13 lead and build their lead to 24-21. Sam Irgang would then hit back to back kills, followed by an ace from Abby Vinopal and a Wagner kill to give Wabash a 24-23 lead. Kline would stop the Wabash run with a kill to make it 24-24 before Angela Levine had a kill, followed by another Vinopal ace to give Wabash game two 26-24.

Manchester would be the aggressor in game three. Trailing 7-6 Kendra Auler would serve an ace that ignited a 5-0 run to put the Squires up 11-7. Manchester would go to Anna Osborne and Lauer to build their lead to 19-11 before going on to win game three 25-16.

Sydney Day would get ht for Manchester early in game four with a block and a tip, followed by a kill from Eva Bazzoni and Lauer to give the Squires a 6-4 lead. Wabash would answer with kills from Alivia Short and Alexis Hartley to go up 9-7. At 9-9 Wagner and Short would dominate the net as Wabash scored 5 straight to take a 14-9 lead before a Kline kill. Wabash kept feeding Wagner as she found pay dirt four times down the stretch as Wabash pulled away for the 25-12 win.
