Manchester Tennis Fourth At West Noble

The Manchester Tennis Team tied for 4th place at the West Noble InvitationalTourney on Saturday. This marked the highest finish and most point scored by a Manchesterteam since the Invitational began. The 29 points tied Bremen for 4th, but left the Squires behindtournament champion Adams Central (52), tournament runner-up Huntington North (43), and Bluffton (36). The Squires did however defeat Lakeland (23), West Noble (17), and Central Noble (7). “I was super pleased with the play of our team today, they fought through a long, hot day of tennis and emerged with our best finish since the tournament started,” said Coach Eric Screeton. The Squires got their best finish from Spence Trick at #2 Singles, finishing 3rd and from the #1 Doubles Team of Parker Wagoner and Logan Parrett who finished 4th. “I thought Spence had a great opening match and rode that momentum to a great finish, as for 1 Doubles they took care of the opening match, which in this tournament makes a HUGE difference,” added Screeton. Manchester also had three positions move into the consolation side of the brackets, but through a combined 6-0 record, the Squires earned as many points as possible with their 5th Place finishes. Those individuals were #1 Singles Luke Donathan, #3 Singles Kyle Shepherd, and #2 Doubles Kam Lester and Quinn Martin. “We experienced a super difficult draw for this tournament and saw three positions suffer 1st round losses, which changes the potential in points. However, these spots worked their tails off to get the team as many points as possible and as a result, no one lost a match in the consolation brackets. It was a great day for Squire Tennis, we even got our alternate Grant Strobel some play and he won his match,” concluded Screeton. The Manchester Team will be off until Wednesday, September 6, when they travel to Norwell.
