Norse Grab Three Game Match Over Knights

It was the annual metro rivalry game at Northfield Tuesday as the Norse played host to Southwood, defeating the Knights 26-24, 25-21, 25-21.

The Lady Norse would grab an early lead in game one, getting kills from Addi Baker and Kenzie Baer to lead 7-5. Ally Keaffaber would get in on the act with a kill along with Ava Smith getting a tip for a point as the lead grew to 12-8. The Knights would cut the lead to 12-11 when Drue Gentry served an ace and the Knights got kills from Allison Steele and Alissa Pershing. Northfield would then go to Baer and Kierston Stout to score 5 straight and led 18-12 before the Knights came calling. Pershing would score on a tip that ignited a 4-0 run to close the gap to 18-16. At 22-20 Southwood would get a kill from Kirsten Pecsenye that started a 4-0 run, giving the Knights a 24-22 lead. Northfield would then get a tip from Keaffber and force a Knight error to tie the score before Baker ended the game with two kills for a Northfield 26-24 win.

Northfield would jump out to a 4-1 lead in game two off a kill from Kyra Kennedy and a Smith ace and keld a 9-6 lead after kills from Smith and Stout. The Knights would take advantage of some Norse miscues to cut the lead to 13-12 and trailed just 15-13. The Northfield lead would remain one to two points until 22-21 when Baker recorded a kill, followed by a kill and a tip from Stout to win game two 25-21.

Game three would start a little shaky on both sides of the net as neither team could gain momentum. With the score tied 5-5 Northfield would get two kills from Baer, followed by Keaffaber and Baker to lead 12-7. Northfield would continue to hold a five to six point lead before Erin Lehner nailed two kills and the Knights got an ace from Kayla Mays to get within 20-18 before Baker went to work again, recording two kills to grab a 23-19 lead. The Knights wouldn’t go away though, getting a kill from Gentry and an ace from Pecsenye to make the score 23-21 before a Stout tip and a Knight error gave Northfield the 25-21 win.
