MU turns in another Sunday surge at HCAC Preview

NICHOLASVILLE, KY. – Manchester University took seven strokes off their first to second round scores to highlight their weekend on Keene Run Golf Course Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 23 and 24.

Senior Katie Smith (Wabash, Ind.), as has been the case throughout the 2017 fall season, proved to be the lightning rod for day two success. She answered a difficult 86 over the first 18 with a superb 78 on the final day. It helped climb her into the individual top 20 and a tie for 17th. Freshman Taylor Erfman (Brookville, Ind.) followed her lead, going from an 88 on Saturday to an 86 on Sunday for a 36-hole 174 which put her in a tie for 33rd. Kaitlyn Cook (Monticello, Ind.) made it three Spartans in the top 35, as the freshman compiled a 172 to end 31st.

MU’s 701 placed them eighth in the 14-team field. The University of Texas at Dallas was the team champion, shooting a 628 to eclipse the field by 14 strokes.

Coach Tara Boone’s squad wraps up its pre-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference schedule Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 30 and Oct. 1, at the Earlham College Invitational. Highland Lake Golf Course in Richmond, Ind., is the host venue.
