Forest Hills Country Club and Highland Lake Golf Course in Richmond, Ind., host sites for the Earlham College Fall Invitationals, are the next stops on Manchester University’s fall men’s and women’s golf schedules.
Tourney details: The men will play at Forest Hills, while the women compete at Highland Lake Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 … Tee times begin at 12 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. Sunday for the men with the women starting at 10 a.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. Sunday.
Spartan Shorts: It’s the final pre-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships’ tune-up for Coach Tara Boone’s women’s team … The Spartans enter the weekend harboring a tournament title (Mt. St. Joseph Stateline Shootout) and a top five (Hanover College Fall Invitational – 4th place) as part of four top 10 finishes … Individually, the trio of senior Katie Smith (Wabash, Ind.) and freshmen Kaitlyn Cook (Monticello, Ind.) and Taylor Erfman (Brookville, Ind.) each average in the 80s. Smith’s 83.88-stroke mark is first and has led her to two top threes at Mt. St. Joseph and Hanover. Cook is second (88.88) and has a top five on her resume (fourth at Mt. St. Joseph), and Erfman harbors an 89.38 average and also has a top five (tied for fifth at Mt. St. Joseph) … Smith’s 78s at Hanover and Transylvania are tied for the third-lowest 18s in program history … MU’s men have one top 10 team finish previously, doing so at Franklin in the fall opener … Just like the women, they have three averaging in the 80s per round. Junior Connor Labedz (Aurora, Ill.) is first (86.33); freshman Conner Heeg (Fowlerville, Mich.) sits second (85.67); and freshman Dillon McFaddin (Bedford, Ind.) (88.33) ranks third … The Spartans close their fall campaign at Mt. St. Joseph’s Stateline Shootout Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 7 and 8. The following weekend, the Black and Gold women’s team competes in the 2017 HCAC Championships Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 14 and 15, which wraps up their fall slate.
