Late surge sends Transylvania past Black and Gold

NORTH MANCHESTER, IND. – A pair of back-and-forth battles in the opening two sets Sunday, Oct. 8, had fans inside Stauffer-Wolfe settling into their seats for a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference donnybrook.

The visiting Transylvania University Pioneers needed every bit of staggering .552 team attack percentage to hang on 25-21 in the opener, while MU answered with a 26-24 second set decision. From that point, the Black and Gold offense struggled to the tune of a negative .056 attack percentage in the third set, and then the home side was sideswiped by an 8-3 Pioneer run to wind up the fourth set, as TU left North Manchester with a pivotal 25-21, 24-26, 25-12, 25-20 decision.

Junior outside hitter Haley Duncan (Albion, Ind.) concluded a strong weekend on the Stan Weller Court honoring Coaches Hoffman and Wolfe. She drilled 13 kills at a .250 pace to go with seven digs and five blocks, one of which was solo. Senior outside hitter Ally Roskos (Elkhart, Ind.) added 11 kills as part of an attacking-digging double-double with 12 digs.

Manchester University, falling to 8-8 overall and 1-4 in the conference, looks to shake off a recent rough run of play Wednesday, Oct. 11. Anderson University visits for a 7 p.m. start.
