Spartans begin home schedule Saturday

Ohio Athletic Conference member Baldwin-Wallace takes a westward trek to North Manchester, Ind.’s Strauss-Peabody Aquatic and Fitness Center for dual action Saturday, Nov. 4.

Spartan Shorts: Saturday’s clash with the Yellowjackets is the first of back-to-back home appearances for Coach Mike Kroll’s men’s and women’s teams. They welcome Franklin College and Indiana Wesleyan University for a tri-meet Saturday, Nov. 11, at 1 p.m. … Competing against some of the state’s best, MU had reason to be excited about its season prospects at the completion of the Indiana Intercollegiate Championships Oct. 21. The women’s team, compiling 48 points at the Morgan J. Burke Aquatics Center, nearly rearranged the entire program’s top 10 best times list during the afternoon. The 200-yard freestyle crew of freshmen Bailey Conder (Greenwood, Ind.)Kaitlyn McCloughan(Columbia City, Ind.); and Shelby Kell (Charlottesville, Ind.) joined junior Mikayla Goetz(Highland, Ind.) to set a new record (1:54.79) as part of a 12th-place finish. Kell put herself in the all-time top five in the 50-yard freestyle (26.68); 200-yard freestyle (2:11.21); and the 500-yard freestyle (6:01.9), while fellow classmates Sierra Hall (Woodburn, Ind.), in the 50-yard backstroke (33.45 seconds); Conder in the 100-yard freestyle (1:01.52); and Katie Blystone (Carmel, Ind.), in the 100-yard backstroke (1:10.71), 50-yard breaststroke (36.53 seconds), and 200-yard individual medley (2:35.4) did so, too. The Black and Gold men’s team had similar success in regards to re-charting the all-time top 10. Sophomore Christain Poole (Anderson, Ind.) clocked the third-fastest 50-yard backstroke (26.89 seconds); freshman Jacob Ramer (Crawfordsville, Ind.) touched the pad in 1:07.92 in the 100-yard backstroke for the fourth-fastest clocking; and freshman Donnie Rader‘s (Lima, Ohio)25.52 in the 50-yard butterfly ranked fifth at MU. Kroll’s squad concluded the afternoon with 50 points … B-W claimed both sides of last year’s dual in the Buckeye State, winning 210-58 on the women’s scoreboard and 183-73 in the men’s competition.
