Knights Fall In Season Opener

The Southwood boys opened their season Tuesday, taking on a very good Wapahani team and falling to the Raiders 65-62.

The Knights would get the start they were looking for when Matt Nose got the first bucket of the game that led to an 8-0 run. Ethen Roberts would get the second bucket off a steal, followed by Peyton Trexler and two Dallas Holmes free throws to lead 8-0. The Raiders would cut the lead in half before a Trexler bucket made it 10-4. Wapahani would the score 6 straight to cut the Knights lead to 10-9 before another Trexler bucket. A three from the Raiders tied the score before Roberts scored the final bucket of the quarter to put Southwood up 14-12 after one.

Trexler would get the first bucket of the second quarter off a steak before the Raiders scored 8 straight to grab a 20-16 lead. Carson Blair would then get in on the act with two straight buckets to tie the score at 20. Wapahani would lead 25-24 before getting a bucket and a free throw to lead 28-24 at the half.

The first bucket of the thitr quarter came from Dallas Holmes before a Raider three made it 31-26. Blair would answer with a three to make it 31-29. Trailing 35-31 Nose would hit, followed by a Trexler three to put the Knights up 36-35. With the Knights leading 41-40 the Raiders would drain a three before the buzzer and led 43-41 with a quarter to go.

Wapahani would build a 47-41 lead to start the fourth quarter before  three from Blair and a bucket and free throw from Trexler tied the score. Down 49-47 Trexler would hit a free throw, followed by a Holmes bucket and two free throws from Luke Winer to give the Knights a 52-49 lead with 4:59 to play. The Raiders would bounce right back and eventually led 56-54 when Roberts tied the score with two free throws. Tied at 58 Wapahani would get two straight buckets for a 62-58 lead before Blair scored with 43.3 left, then steal the ball and score again to make it 62-62. Wapahani would drain a three with as the Knights hurried down the floor and called time out. Coming out of the time out with 5.7 seconds on the clock, Southwood’s attempt would fall short as they fell to the Raiders 65-62.

The Southwood junior varsity fell 47-41.
