Squires Fall In Double Header To Oak Hill

The Manchester boys and girls basketball teams played host to the #1 team in the state Saturday in 2A, #1 Oak Hill.

The Lady Squires were up first, hanging with the Eagles the first half before Oak Hill oulled away in the second half for the 44-31 final.

Down 2-0 Erika Kendall would tie the score before Oak Hill ran off 9 straight to take an 11-2 lead. Eva Bazzoni would then hit a three to make it 11-5. At 13-5 Kennedy Fierstos hit the final bucket of the quarter from behind the three point arch to make it 13-8 after one.

Oak Hill would extend their lead to 17-8 early in the second before Fierstos hit two free throws. At 22-10 Fierstos would hit two more from the charity stripe before Kerigan Hatfield hir a three to make it 22-15. The Squires would trade buckets the remainder of the quarter with Bazzoni and Kendall hitting as Oak Hill led 27-19 at the half.

The Squires would score just twice in the third quarter with Bazzoni and Fierstos each hitting a bucket as Oak Hill built their lead to 38-23 after three.

The Eagles would extend their lead to 43-23 in the fourth before Emma West and Sydney Day hit. The last bucket of the night was a Day three as the Lady Squires fell 44-31.

In the boys game the Squires played a great first half before Oak Hill pulled away in the third to defeat the Squires 59-45.

Oak Hill would jump out to a 10-3 lead when the lights came on from the Squires. Koehl Fluke would hit three straight three pointers, followed by a three from Brayden Casper to take a 12-10 lead. Fluke would then hit his third bomb of the quarter, followed by a basket from Mason Hamby as the Squires led 17-10. Oak Hill would stop the 14-0 run with a basket before Konrad Borgmann ended the scoring in the quarter with Manchester leading 19-12.

Oak Hill would score the first 8 points of the second quarter to grab a 20-19 lead before Fluke converted an old fashion three point play to put Manchester up 22-20. The Eagles would answer with 5 straight to take the lead back at 25-22. Weston Hamby would score the final points of the quarter with two free throws as the Squires trailed 25-24 at the half.

Manchester had trouble finding the bucket in the third. Oak Hill would take a quick 30-24 lead before Fluke hit. The Eagles would build their lead to 36-26 with back to back three pointers before Kam Lester scored off a steal to make it 36-28. Oak Hill scored the last 4 points of the quarter and led 40-28 with a quarter to go.

The Squires would make a run at the Eagles early in the fourth. Fluke would hit his fifth three pointer of the game with Lester also hitting from behind the arch to make the score 42-34. Down 44-34 Weston Hamby would score on a three point play and get a basket from brother Mason as the Oak Hill lead had been cut to 46-39 when the Eagles height started to take it’s toll. Oak Hill would build their lead to 50-39 before going on to defeat the Squires 59-45.
