The Manchester Lady Squires, fresh off their win over county rival Northfield headed to Huntington Tuesday to battle the Vikings and led early before falling 50-37.
Manchester would get the first bucket of the game off a Kennedy Fierstos runner before Madalyn Robrock hit two straight and then a third after a Sydney Day bucket to give the Lady Vikings a 6-4 lead. The Squires would answer with a three from Fierstos and a bucket from Erika Kendall to grab a 9-6 lead before Robrock hit to start a 9-0 run. Hollyn Anderson and Karmen Koch would get buckets during the run with Robrock and Reece Colclesser each adding a free throw for a 15-9 Huntington lead. Emma West would then drain a three and hit a free throw for the Squires to make it 15-13 before Rileigh Johnson hit before the buzzer to give the Vikings a 17-13 lead after one.
Huntington would extend their lead to start the second on a Koch bucket off a steal, then go on a 9-1 run to grab a 28-14 lead. Larissa Johnson, Rileigh Johnson and Rylee Williams all had buckets during the run. Kennedy Fierstos would stop the run with a three which ended up being Manchester’s only bucket of the quarter as Huntington led 30-17 at the half.
Manchester would get back in the game to start the third. Kendall would hit, followed by a three from Kiera Hatfield and a bucket from Day as the Vikings lead was sliced to 30-24. Rileigh Johnson would stop the run with a bucket before West hit two straight to make it 33-28. Colclesser would then hit two free throws, followed by a Williams bucket as the Vikings led 36-28 with a quarter to go.
Williams ended the third with a bucket and started the fourth with a bucket as the Huntington lead was 38-28 when the Squires would make one more run. Day and West would make it 38-32 before Rileigh Johnson drained a three for a 41-32 score. Fierstos would make it 41-34 before the Vikings put the game away. Kock would hit a bucket that ignited a 9-0 run to give Huntington a 50-34 lead and went on to win the h=game 50-37.
