Norse Win Home Opener Over Canterbury

The Northfield boys got a balanced scoring attack as they defeated Canterbury 72-64 Wednesday in their home opener.

The Norse would jump out to a 4-1 lead on two Kyle Reed free throws and a bucket from Cole Rosen. Nate Drancik would make it 6-3 before a Canterbury three tied the score. At 6-6 the Norse would go on a 6-0 run off a Logan Peas bucket and two free throws from Drancik. The Canterbury bench was then called for a technical foul with Joe Halderman hitting both free throws to lead 12-6. At 12-8 Rosen would score off a steal before Canterbury made it 14-11. Halderman would come right back with a three that was matched by the Cavaliers before a three point play from Jared Peas made it 20-14. At 20-18 Logan Peas would end the quarter with a three and the Norse led 23-18 after one.

Rosen would get the first bucket of the second quarter and led 27-20 when Canterbury made a run to make it 27-26. Tied at 29 Daniel Driscoll would hit a free throw, followed by a Reed bucket as the Norse led 32-29 at the half.

Jared Peas got the first bucket of the third quarter to make it 34-29 before the Cavaliers went on a 9-0 run and grabbed a 38-34 lead, forcing a Northfield time out. The Norse would respond, getting a three from Halderman followed by a three from Logan Peas. Reed would then hit to give Northfield a 42-38 lead. The lead would go back and forth the remainder of the quarter with Canterbury leading 48-46 when Halderman hit another bomb to give the Norse a 49-48 lead after three.

Back and forth they went to start the fourth and with Canterbury leading 54-53 Reed would score off an offensive rebound, then scored again before Halderman’s third three of the night to put Northfield up 60-54. The Norse would maintain a 4 point lead until 64-60 when Reed converted an old fashion three with 1:49 left to make it 67-60. Rosen would make it 68-60 with 1:15 left as the Norse held on for the 72-64 win.
