Knights Go 2-0 In Own Freshman Invite

The Knights hosted Northwestern in the opening round of their Freshman Invitational Saturday morning. The hosts had to battle through some mistakes midway through the 1st half, but closed on a nice run to take an eight point lead into the half. The Knights remained on the attack defensively in the 2nd half and forced many turnovers and limited the visitors to only six 2nd half points. Every player got a chance to get in and mix it up with the Tigers leading to a great team victory 51-23

Logan Barley – 16 pts
Ty Roser – 13 pts
Dawson Filip – 9 pts
Tristin Hayslett – 7 pts
Isaac Holloway – 4 pts
Grant Whitham – 2 pts

In game two the Knights hit five 3 point shots in the opening quarter, but gave up several offensive rebound baskets on the other end. In the 2nd quarter however, the Knights picked up their backside rebounding and continued to cut and hit open shots. The attack continued in the 2nd half, as the hosts cleaned up the boards and did not allow Rochester to get easy baskets. In the final frame, the home team was able to spread the floor and burn time off the clock, while still looking to attack. The Knights combined to score 105 points in both games, while limiting their opponents to only 54 combine points. It’s always fun to score, but pressure, active hands, and team rebounding are all key components to Southwood Basketball. This group showed today that they are capable of shooting and scoring the ball at a high level. When that is combined with a frenetic defensive effort, good things will happen. Southwood¬† 54, Rochester 31
