The Wabash Lady Apaches played host to a hot Rochester squad Saturday, jumping all over the Zebras in the first quarter and picking up a big TRC win 50-38.
Rochester would grab a 1-0 lead to start the game which would be the only point the Zebras would score in the quarter. Hope Unger got the Apaches going with a three and was followed by a Tabitha Wagner bucket. Carmen Higdon would then get on the board, scoring a bucket and two free throws before Bailey Yoakum hit. Higdon would end the quarter with a three as Wabash scored 14 straight and led 14-1 after one.
Alivia Short would trade buckets with Rochester early in the second and with the Apaches leading 16-7 they would score 6 straight. Abby Vinopal would hit followed by four Higdon free throws to make it 22-7. At 22-12 Unger would hit from long range again before the half as Wabash led 25-12 at the half.
Rochester would come out swinging in the third, scoring the first 8 points of the quarter to cut the Wabash lead to 25-20 when the Apaches had an answer. Bailey Yoakum would get the first Wabash bucket at the 4:20 mark that sparked a 10-0 run to make it 35-20. Short would add two buckets during the run with Kiley Stone and Higdon scoring. Short would hit the final bucket of the quarter as Wabash led 36-22 with a quarter to go.
The two teams would go back and forth early in the fourth and Wabash was leading 44-33 when the Rochester coach was called for a technical foul. Yoakum would hit both free throws as the Apaches went on to the 50-38 win.
