Cauffman, Wilson lead way at Gator Boot Duals

NASHVILLE, TENN. – Senior 141-pounder Chase Wilson (Peru, Ind.) resumed a sparkling run as part of action at Luther College of Iowa’s Gator Boot Duals Saturday, Dec. 16.

Increasing his season record to 9-2, the No. 9-ranked individual on the current National Wrestling Coaches Association’s Division III rankings cruised past Baldwin-Wallace’s Dalton Leightner 15-3 and then held off a tough test from Loras College’s Kevin Kelly in a 3-2 thriller. The two victories sent Wilson’s current win streak to nine.

He wasn’t the only member of Coach Kevin Lake’s squad to earn two wins. Junior 133-pounder Ben Cauffman (Fort Wayne, Ind.) moved to 8-2 after earning a technical fall against Ferrum College of Virginia and stopping the Duhawks’ Frankie Indelli 10-5 in the final dual of the day. Sophomore JaVon Phillips (Centerville, Ind.), at 141, and fellow sophomore Jordan Napier (Indianapolis, Ind.), at 149, each took a win during the afternoon at McGavock High School.

Manchester University had its record go to 1-5 after a 32-11 loss to No. 9 Ferrum; a 34-7 defeat at the hands of No. 8 Baldwin-Wallace; and a 37-6 triumph by No. 4 Loras. The Spartans return to action Thursday and Friday, Jan. 4 and 5, at the National Wrestling Coaches Association’s Division III National Duals.
