Second Half Surge Carries Knights Past Peru

The Southwood Knights gave up 28 first quarter points and trailed by 13 before mounting a comeback and defeating Peru 73-56 Saturday.

Down 28-15 after the first quarter the Knights would start the second quarter by scoring the first five points to get the deficit ti single digits.Matt Norse and Dallas Holmes led the charge in the quarter as the Knights out scored the Tigers 18-7 in the quarter and trailed 35-33 at the half.

Southwood would own the second half, out scoring Peru 26-15 in the third and 14-6 in the fourth to secure the win. The Knights put four players in double figures led by Dallas Holmes with a double double.

The JV Knights struggled defensively in the first half against the Peru Tigers; however, after a few adjustments they only gave up 12 second half points. The final score was 50 to 38.

Quentin Perry was the leading scorer with 14 points. Jackson Simons added 9 points and 6 rebounds with Gabe Lloyd having 8 points and 4 assists. Braden Barney led the team with 8 rebounds and chipped in 6 points. Connor Rich came off the bench and sparked the defensive surge with a team leading 3 steals and dished out 4 assists. Carson Rich left the game early with an injury, but added 3 points.
