Norse Pick Up Comeback Win Over Valley

The Northfield boys basketball team trailed Tippecanoe Valley for most of the game Friday before making a 9-3 run midway through the fourth quarter that propelled them to a 58-52 win over the Vikings.

The Norse would take a 2-0 lead on a Kyle Reed bucket before Valley scored 6 straight. Joe Halderman would make it 5-4 and the Norse trailed 7-6 after a Clayton Tomlinson bucket. Down 10-6 Halderman would hit two straight and the score was 10-10 after one.

The two teams would trade blows to start the second quarter with Logan Peas hitting a three. Valley had built a 23-16 lead when  Peas hit a bucket and two free throws, followed by two Reed free throws as the Norse closed the gap to 23-22. Down 25-24 after a Jared Peas bucket, Valley would score the last 4 points of the quarter and led 29-24 at the half.

Valley looked like they could run away from the Norse to start the third quarter, hitting two long balls and scoring 8 straight to grab a 37-24 lead before the Norse would close the gap again. Reed, Nate Drancik and Halderman would hit three straight to make it 37-30 before another Valley three pushed it to 40-30. Back came the Norse with buckets from Reed and Logan Peas to close the deficit to 40-35. Down 42-35 Tomlinson would hit two free throws, followed by a Reed free throw to end the scoring in the quarter with Northfield trailing 42-38.

The Norse would deliver the first blow of the fourth quarter, getting a three from Logan Peas, plus buckets from Reed and Tomlinson to grab a 45-42 lead before Valley answered with 4 points to take the lead back at 46-45. With 2:47 left in the game Reed would hit two free throws, then score off a steal for a Northfield 49-46 lead and built the lead to 52-47. Valley would begin the fouling game, trying to play catch up with Reed and Halderman converting at the line to preserve the 58-52 win.
