White Headed To Indiana Tech
Southwood’s SARAH WHITE will continue her basketball career, after signing a letter of intent to play basketball at Indiana Tech (Ft. Wayne).
While at Southwood Sarah was a 12 season sports participant in volleyball, basketball, softball and track and was instrumental in helping the Lady Knights earn the Three Rivers Conference Championship this season. Listed below are Sarah’s high school athletic Accomplishments:

Northfield Basketball Camps
2013 Northfield Boys’ & Girls’ Basketball Clinic
Northfield girls’ basketball coach Courtney Cervenka and boys’ coach Moe Smedley will be conducting a combined basketball clinic from June 3-7 in the east gym at Northfield High School.
Cost is $30 for the first child and $20 for all others in the same family. Checks should be made payable to “Northfield High School.” Clinic forms may be picked up at the NHS, Metro Elementary or Sharp Creek offices. Forms should be sent to NHS c/o “Basketball Clinic” by May 29 or handed in the first day of the clinic.
Any girl entering grades 1-9 may attend. Those entering grades 1-3 will meet from 8:00-9:15am each day. Those entering grades 4-6 will meet from 9:30am-11:00am. Those entering grades 7-9 will meet from 11:15am-12:45pm.
Manchester Hires Girls Basketball Coach
In a unanimous vote Tuesday night, the Manchester Community School Board approved the recommendation to hire Brooke Airgood as the varsity girls’ basketball coach for next year. Ms. Airgood will be a physical education and health teacher at Manchester Junior-Senior High School, replacing her retiring mentor, Ms. Bobbi Lautzenheiser.
“We are excited to welcome Brooke Airgood back to Manchester as a teacher and coach,” according to Nancy Alspaugh, MJSHS Principal. ”She has outstanding qualifications to take over our girls’ basketball program and is thrilled to have an opportunity to coach and teach in her Indiana hometown.”
County Girls Earn All State Honors
The IBCA(Indiana Basketball Coaches Association) announced their all state selections for girls basketball this week with four Wabash county players making honorable mention.
The IBCA selects 15 seniors and 15 underclass for their two all state teams, plus honorable mention selections.
Making the senior honorable mention team was Sydney Eltzroth of Northfield and Sarah White of Southwood.
Making the underclass honorable mention team was Kyleigh Hampton of Wabash and Sidney Reed of Northfield.
Northfield Girls Basketball Awards
The Northfield Girls’ Basketball award program was held on Monday, February 25 in the NHS auditorium.
7th graders receiving certificates were Michelle Hunt, Kylie Mitchell, Katy Pefley, Ellie Schuler, Indi Shear, Maddie Snyder and Kenzie Thornsbury. The team was 5-10 and was coached by Kristin Unger.
8th graders receiving certificates were Hannah Bartoo, Jordan Bratch, Jordan Keaffaber, Ashlie Koch, Jacklyn Peas, Courtney Stapleton, Kandra Stout, Alexis Taylor and Olivia Tayler. The team was 6-9 and was coached by Tim Woodward.
Receiving their JV certificates were Jensen Zumbaugh, Maddy Dale, Sarah Driscoll and Abby Keaffaber. The team finished 10-7 and was coached by Tom Hayes.
Earning varsity chevrons were Hannah Cole, Sydney Eltzroth, Kylie Echard, Sidney Reed, Katie Stephen, Arie Kennedy, Cherish Leming, Marlee Stefanatos and Payton Thomson. Payton Thomson also earned her award jacket, Letter ‘N’ and numerals was Payton Thomson.
Sydney Eltzroth and Sidney Reed earned 1st Team TRC All-Conference honors. Kylie Echard earned honorable mention honors. Kylie Echard and Sydney Eltzroth earned All-Country 1st team honors. Sidney Reed earned 2nd team honors. Echard, Eltzroth and Reed all made the All-Country Tournament team.
Earning All-TRC Academic honors was Kylie Echard and Katie Stephan. Earning honorable mention honors was Hannah Cole, Sydney Eltzroth and Sidney Reed.
Sydney Eltzroth and Sidney Reed all made the Northfield Invitational All-Tournament Team.
Individual award winners were Sydney Eltzroth (Most Valuable Player), Hanna Cole (Mental Attitude Award) and Maddy Dale (Most Improved Player). Captain stars were earned by Sydney Eltzroth, Sidney Reed and Katie Stephan.
The team finished 16-6 and won the Northfield Invitational and Wabash County Tournament. The Lady Norse were coached by Courtney Cervenka. She was assisted by Tom Hayes, Mark Cervenka, Erin Poole and Ashley Frehse.

Friday night the Wabash Lady Apaches lost to Whitko 30-6
Leading scorers for Wabash were Hannah Halverson, Brooke Irgang, and Abby Vinopal all with 2 pts.
Wabash’s record drops to 4-9.
In B team action, the Lady Apaches won in overtime 13-11 against the Whitko B team.
Leading Scorers for Wabash were Leigha Boggs and Brandi Sprague with 4 pts, Kiley Stone with 3 pts, and Kelsie Olinger with 2 pts.
This was the first win the the B team on the season.
Northfield 6th Tops Wabash
The Northfield 6th grade girls basketball team topped Wabash 48-14 Monday.
For Northfield Ariel Dale and Kelcie Thomson led with 14 points each. Hope Unger added 10, Abbey Ross 4, Melanie Beery 4 and Gretta Auler 2.
For Wabash Abby Vinopal led with 6pts, Kaylee Graf with 3 pts, Brooke Irgang and Tabby Wagner added 2 pts each and Brandi Sprague added 1 point.
