Meggison To Wrestle At Wabash College

On Thursday, May 18, 2017 Manchester High School senior Collin Meggison signed his intent to attend Wabash College to continue his academic and wrestling career. Collin was a 2017 county, TRC, and sectional champion for the Squires.

Northfield/Southwood JH Wrestling At RRC

Northfield’s Jr High wrestlers competed in the RRC Wrestling Tourney Saturday at Whtiko. The team placed 9th out of ten teams.
Placing for the Norse were:
2nd Logan Cox 200 lbs, Dayne Pefley 220 lbs and Micah Higgins 185 lbs
3rd Dakota France 125 lbs
4th Jarrett Shafer 165 lbs
5th Malachi Higgins 145 lbs
6th Evan Galbraith 130 lbs and Cody Copeland 140 lbs
The kids did a good job today. Wrestling is always tough in the RRC. It was great to see all the Norse fans in the stands. Congratulations to the Wabash Apaches for winning the tourney.
We finish up our season Monday when we travel to Wabash to wrestle the Apaches and Oak Hill. Action starts at 6:00 pm.


The Southwood Junior High Wrestlers competed in the Running Rivers Conference Meet
at Whitko High School Saturday placing 7th.

Individual Placing: 1st Elijah Sutton; 2nd Cody Gaylourd and Kaden Rody; 3rd Braxton Worthington, Connor Rich, and Thomas Charles; 4th Tristin Hayslett and Cayden Prickett; and 6th Bryce Wyatt.

Overall the Squires wrestled hard in two duals that featured many close matches. Dylan Stroud continued to impress and enters RRC with only one loss on the season. Dominic Lincoln and Trevor Dill each won two matches in dominating fashion. Brady Wiley, Jonathan England, and Ethan Shambarger both picked up key pins vs Peru, and Izzy Serrano got a huge takedown win in overtime to secure the victory against the Tigers.

The Squires conclude the middle school season on Saturday morning at 9 AM in the RRC Tournament at Whitko.

Overall the Squires battled through adversity with several key wrestlers out of the lineup and gained valuable experience in the three duals. The 7th grade group continued to be a strength as Dylan Stroud, Dominic Lincoln, and Trevor Dill all wrestled well to go undefeated. 7th graders Westin Bradford, Jonathan Eberly, and Brady Wiley all won important matches as well. Peyton Addair went 2-0 with two pins and is improving as he looks forward to his final shot at an RRC title Saturday. Fellow 8th grader Jonathan England won a key match to secure the win vs Whitko, while 5th grader Isaiah Burlingame also won a match vs the Wildcats.

The Squires return to action on Thursday at 6 pm at Peru in a 3-way with Southwood.

Norse JH Wrestling Falls To Peru

Northfield’s Jr High wrestlers lost a tough match to Peru 48-87 Tuesday. Pinning their opponents were Dakota France (2), Micah Higgins, Layne Deton, Ethan Weaver and Jarret Shafer. Winning by decision were Logan Cox and Colten Clifton.

Manchester MS Wrestling Has Two Champions At Rochester

The Manchester Squires Middle School Wrestling team had 2 champions in the Rochester Invitational Saturday.

Overall the Squires wrestled well and continued to show improvement as a team. Individually Dylan Stroud had a dominating day on the way to his title and Trevor Dill had a big headlock pin in overtime to secure 1st place. Peyton Addair finished 2nd in a tie match vs an opponent he will likely face again in the final week. Brady Wiley and Isaiah Burlingame both had impressive 3rd place finishes to lead a strong effort by the lightweights. The team showed a lot of resilience as 5 wrestlers battled back to 5th place after losing in the opening round, led by strong efforts from Jonathan England and Dominic Lincoln.

The Squires return to action on Tuesday at 5pm as they host a 4way with North Miami, Whitko, and Tippecanoe Valley.

MU closes 2016-17 campaign

FORT WAYNE, IND. – Sophomore 133-pounder Ben Cauffman (Fort Wayne, Ind.), junior 141-pounder Chase Wilson (Peru, Ind.), freshman 157-pounder Jordan Napier (Indianapolis, Ind.) and junior 165-pounder Tristan Wilson (Fort Wayne, Ind.) all finished up their 2017 NCAA Midwest Regional tournament appearances with 2-2 records Saturday, Feb. 25.

After each member of the quartet rallied from championship side losses during day one action Friday, Feb. 24, to win two matches on the back side, they each had their season ended Saturday morning. Cauffman was stopped by Thomas More College’s John Shirkey, 13-3; Wilson, concluding a sparkling third season in a Black and Gold singlet with 30 victories, was held off by the University of Chicago’s Grant Morrison 7-4; Napier, who wrapped up an above .500 first year college slate, dropped a 4-3 thriller to Gavin Nelson of Ohio Northern; and Tristan Wilson, who like his similar last named teammate, won two matches at a regional for the second successive season, was blanked by eventual consolation champion Davon Jackson of Olivet College of Michigan, 13-0.

The host Spartans concluded the event at Allen County War Memorial Coliseum with 10.5 points.

Northfield’s Jr High wrestlers lost three dual meets last night. Winning matches were Dakota France(4), Logan Cox, Dayne Pefley, Ethan Galbraith, Ben Holley, Colton Clifton and Micah Higgins.

The Southwood Junior High Wrestling team kept their Dual meet run going
defeating Riverview 30-21, Northfield 48-12, and Madison Grant 30-6.

Overall the Squires wrestled hard against some tough competition. Tournament champion Daleville and runner up Knox both came out strong in the first two duals, but Manchester was competitive throughout the lineup. The team bounced back with three straight wins, led by undefeated runs from Dominc Lincoln and Elijah Burlingame. Dylan Stroud, Peyton Addair, and Zach France all lost their first match vs Daleville, but won the rest of the day in impressive fashion. Gage Reed continues to impress in his first year and Jonathan England and Trevor Dill both looked strong in the upper weights. The team will look to continue to improve with a home dual on Monday night vs Wabash at 6pm.

The Southwood Junior High Wrestling squad started their season with a three team sweep

Thursday night, downing Northfield 58-12, Manchester 60-30, and Eastbrook 45-9.

On the Night: Tristin Hayslett had 5 wins; Connor Rich and Thomas Charles had 4 wins; Bryce Wyatt, Isaac King, Cayden Prickett, and Kaden Rody had 3 wins; and Braxton Worthington and Austin Staggs had 2 wins.


Winning matches for Northfield were Dakota France (4), Logan Cox (2), Micah Higgins (3), Dayne Pefley (2), Ethan Galbraith (2), Levi Collins, Dylan Osborn and Cody Copeland.

Wrestling Season Comes To An End At Semi State

Nine Wabash County wrestlers qualified for the Ft Wayne semi state Saturday, needing two wins to make it to the state finals. Unfortunately some were just a match away before falling with none making it to the state finals.

At 113lbs Braden Brooks of Wabash fell in the first round by major decision to Evan Beasley of Northridge.

At 120lbs Braxtin Wilson of Manchester fell in the first round on a fall to Josh Stephenson of Yorktown

At 138lbs Chad Elliott of Southwood fell in the first round in a major decision to Ethan Hicks of Carroll

At 152lbs Wade France of Manchester fell in the first round by fall to Nathaniel Weimer of East Noble

At 152lbs Layne Evans of Northfield won his first round match by fall over Garrett Griffin of Northwood before falling in the second round by fall to Hunter Reed of Columbia City

At 160lbs Delton Moore of Manchester won his first round match by fall over Scott Lentz of Homestead before falling in the second round by decision to Tony Busse of Bellmont

At 170lbs Quentin Moore of Manchester won his first round match by decision over Mikey Edwards of Northwood before falling in the second round by major decision to Bryce Baumgartner of Bellmont

At 182lbs Noah Cressel of Wabash won his first round match by fall over Eli Parrett of Huntington before falling in the second round by decision to Conner Graber of Northridge

At 195lbs Justin Samons of Wabash fell in the first round by fall to David Eli of Elkhart Memorial

Moore/Cressel Take Home Regional Wrestling Titles

The wrestling regional was held at Peru Saturday with 24 Wabash County wrestlers competing. The highlights of the day were Manchester’s Delton Moore taking home the title at 160 pounds, while Wabash’s Noah Cressel won at 182 pounds.

Manchester finished 6th as a team with Wabash 8th, Southwood 14th and Northfield 15th. Oak Hill won the team title. Wrestlers needed to finish in the top 4 of their weight class to advance to next Saturday’s semi-state in Ft Wayne.

Making it to Ft Wayne were Braden Brooks of Wabash at 113lbs(3rd), Braxtin Wilson of Manchester at 120lbs(4th), Chad Elliott of Southwood at 138lbs(3rd), Lane Evans of Northfield at 152lbs(3rd), Wade France of Manchester at 152lbs(4th), Delton Moore of Manchester at 160lbs(champion), Quentin Moore of Manchester at 170lbs(3rd), Noah Cressel of Wabash at 182lbs(champion), Justin Samons of Wabash at 195lbs(4th).
