Game 1 on the national league field featured the Pirates and the Giants. The starting pitchers were Austin Cundiff for the Pirates and Zach Ball for the Giants. The Pirates jumped out to an early 4 to 0 lead. After that inning Zach settled down to not allow another run in the game. He pitched 4 strong innings to gain the 14 to 5 win. The Giants did most of their damage when the scored 8 runs in the third inning. Austin lost the strike and the Giant hitters were very patient allowing multiple runs to score on walks. The top three batters for the Giants were Zach Ball, Kaleb Kelsheimer, and Carson Blair. Kaleb laced an in side the park homerun in the fourth. Leaders at the plate for the Pirates were Clay Hendrickson and Joe Mitchell. Zach was relieved by Kaleb Kelsheimer to complete the strong outting by the Giants. The ball just wasn’t bouncing the Pirates way and they fell 14 to 5 in 7 innings.
The other game was between the Redsox and Braves The Braves started Jordan Burnsworth on the mound who held the the young bats of the Redsox to 2 runs. The game was a great pitching duel through 5 innings between Jordan Burnsworth and Brennan Kelley. The Braves then broke the game open and ended the game with a 6 to 2 win. The Redsox will play the Braves again tomorrow night at 6pm. With the win the Braves control their division with only one loss.
