The Wabash Lady Apaches won their season opener against Bluffton Thursday night 25-14, 25-22,25-22.
In game one only up 5-4, Wabash went on a run. The Thomas sisters (Kelsie & Lindsey ) combined for three kills and one by Kyleigh Hampton put the Lady Apaches up 10-4. Wabash would slowly stretch the lead behind two more Lindsey Thomas kills to go up 23-8. Bluffton battled back to 23-14 before Gabi Nearing had a block for a point and Kelsie Thomas a kill to end the game.
Game two was tight the entire game. Wabash started out trying to run away with it behind kills from Kelsey Cromer, Hampton and the Thomas sisters to go up 8-3. Bluffton would draw close at 8-6 before back to back kills from Cromer. The game from that point would never get more than four points apart until Wabash went up 23-18. Bluffton would claw their way back to 24-22 before serving the ball out of bounds to give Wabash the win and a 2-0 lead.
Game three was as exciting as they can get with the the lead changing or being tied 15 times. Wabash went up 4-2 with an ace from Cromer and a double block from Nearing and Kelsie Thomas. Bluffton would come back and go up 6-5 before Wabash tied it at 9. from that point the game was tied seven times before Wabash took a 20-19 lead and went to 21-19 on a Kelsie Thjomas ace. Bluffton would come back to go ahead 22-21. Wabash went back up 23-22 on a Cromer kill. Lindsie Thomas would serve an ace and then Kaleigh Hensley would bomb a kill to end the game.
