The Manchester Lady Squire volleyball team place 2nd in their own invitational Saturday. Manchester defeated Tri Central 25-16, 25-13, Tipp Valley 25-21, 25-18 and lost to Lakewood Park 16-25, 27-25, 11-15.
In match one against Tri Central the Lady Squires took a 11-10 lead and with Meika Kennedy serving six more points to take a 17-10 lead and control of the game. Kaylee Watson had one kill and two aces down the stretch along with two Tiffany Clark kills to win game one 25-16. In game two Manchester went up 7-5 on two Clark aces, gradually building the lead to 18-10 on her kill. Malyssa Bedke added two aces and the game ended on two Natalee Cain kills, 25-13.
In match two the Lady Squires had conference foe Tipp Valley. Manchester fell behind early and had to gain control. Down 10-5, Cain recorded a kill with Kennedy serving and cut the lead to 11-9. Shortly after Elizabeth Schilling and Clark had kills to tie the score at 12. Sidney Snep recorded a kill to put Manchester up 14-13. Seven more times the game would be tied until Manchester at 22-21 scored the last three points to win the game. Game two started a little different as the Lady Squires took the lead early and never let it go. The game was a lot of defensive mistakes and at 24-18 Bedke had a tip to end the game and match.
Match three would be agaonst Lakewood Park and decide the winner of the invite. Game one started tight with Manchester taking a 3-2 lead behind two Clark kills. Kennedy recorded a kill to tie the game at 6. Lakewood went up 10-8 before Schilling and Clark had kills to tie it and a Schilling ace to give Manchester a 11-10 lead. Lakewook took control of the game at 12-11 and built the lead to the final score of 25-16. Ckark had a kill, ace and tip during Lakewood’s run. Game two would start the same. Snep had a block to tie the score at 3. Cain recorded a kill to put Manchester up 5-4. Manchester had a run of small runs to build the lead. Clark had a kill to build the lead to 14-8 before Lakewood made a come back and cut the lead to 15-13. Clark and Watson had kills to stop the bleeding and then two kills by Cain and one by Snep made it 21-14. Lakewood would go on an 8 point run to take a 22-21 lead. Another Cain kill tied it. The game would be tied three more times and at 25-25 Clark slammed a kill and the game ended on four hits by Lakewood.
So, game three would decide the winner of the match and the tourney. Manchester started hot, taking a 4-1 lead behind three Clark kills and a Schilling ace. Lakewood came back and tied it at 4. Manchester would go up 6-5 on a Cain kill. Lakewood took the lead at 8-7 and built it to 10-7. Manchester would fight back, cutting it to 10-9 on a Lana Miller ace. At 12-9 Clark had a kill. At 14-11 Clark again. A two hit call was made against Manchester to end the game and match 15-11.
