The Northfield boys varsity basketball team improved their record to 2-0 with a 51-33 win over Eastbrook Tuesday night. The Norse held Eastbrook to 7 points under their defensive average. Northfield is ranked 29th in the state in defense holding their opponent to 40 points per game.
The first quarter would stay tight with the lead changing six times. The Norse took the lead for good when Justin Parker hit a jumper to go up 12-10. Buckets from Ryan Givens and Dustin Echard ended the quarter for a Northfield 16-12 lead. Givens had 8 points in the quarter. Echard had 6 and Parker 2.
Northfield would score the first four points of the second quarter, two free throws from Joe Frieden and a bucket from Givens. Eastbrook would cut the lead to 22-18 before Echard converted a three point play and Chad Glasscock hit a bucket to give the Norse a 27-21 half time lead.
The third quarter is where Northfield did it’s damage, out scoring Eastbrook 14-2 to take a 41-23 lead going in to the final quarter. The scoring was a little more balanced in the quarter with four players scoring. Parker, Glasscock and Givens each scored 4 points, while Frieden had 2.
Northfield played ball control in the fourth quarter, with each team scoring 10 points. Five players would score in the quarter. Givens had 3 points. Parker, Frieden and Glasscock 2 points and Echard 1 point for the 51-33 final.
Ryan Givens lead the Norse in scoring with 19 points. Dustin Echard had 10 points, Chad Glasscock and Justin Parker 8 points and Joe Frieden 6 points.
