The Manchester girls basketball team kept the ball rolling Friday night with a 67-56 win over Whitko. The win raises Manchester’s record to 5-2 and 2-0 in the TRC.
Again the Manchester depth paid off as the Lady Squires had ten players score and wore out the Wildcats.
The game started out as a very high scoring affair. Whitko lead 23-18 after the first quarter. The Wildcats had six players score in the quarter and Manchester had four. Hannah Little lead the Squires with 7 points. Hanna Schmidt and Erika Milam had 4 each. Kayla Flack had 3.
The two teams would play to a 15-15 tie in the second quarter, with Whitko leading 38-33 at the half. This quarter the Lady Squires would have six players in the scoring column. Kaylee Watson and Meika Kennedy would add their names to the list of depth.
The third quarter is when the Manchester depth started to pay off, not just on offense but defense as well. Manchester out scored Whitko 14-6 in the quarter to take a 47-44 lead. Manchester had six players score in the quarter, lead by Flack with 4 points. Watson hit from behind the arch.
Manchester would win the fourth quarter 20-12, holding Whitko to one bucket. Schmidt and Kalene Freshour had 5 points each in the quarter. Manchester held on for a 67-56 win.
Manchester had 10 players score, but only 2 in double figures. Hannah Little lead the Lady Squires with 13 points. Hanna Schmidt added 12. Little had 7 rebounds and 4 assist. Kayla Flack had 9 points, Erika Milam 8 points and 3 steals, Kaylee Watson 6 points and 3 steals, Autumn Brewer 6 points and 3 rebounds, Kalene Freshour 5 points and 1 steal, Meika Kennedy 4 points, 7 assist and 2 steals, Lindsey Budnik 2 points and Malyssa Bedke 2 points. Bekah Brunn had 1 assist.
The Lady Squires shot 24 of 45 from the field, 3 of 8 from three and 16 of 31 from the free throw line. Manchester had 41 rebounds, 12 assist and 13 steals. The Lady Squires committed 28 turn overs.
