The Southwood Lady Knights won the Metro match up with Northfield Friday night 36-23. It was a game of two different styles as Southwood wanted to slow it down and Northfield wanted to play full court. In the end it came down to shooting in which Southwood percentage wise doubled up on Northfield.
Southwood’s Sarah White started off the scoring with two free throws in what would end up a very low scoring quarter. Down 2-0, Northfield’s Alyssa Richter stole the ball and hit Katie Stephan for a bucket to tie it up. Sidney Reed of Northfield then hit two free throws and the Lady Norse were up 4-2. White followed with Southwood’s only bucket of the quarter, a three pointer with 5:30 to go to take a 5-4 lead. The next four minutes no points were put up as both defenses out played the offense. Stephan hit with 1:03 remaining to give Northfield a 6-5 lead after one.
The second quarter would belong to Southwood. The Lady Knights out scored Northfield 14-2 to go to half time with a 19-8 lead. Southwood had five different players score in the quarter. White scored the first three points of the quarter to give Southwood a lead they would never let go. Along with White, Kaley Harness hit a three pointer, while Jessica Pegg, Abby Harness and Ana Marie Farlow all hit two pointers. Kylie Echard and Morgan Peas each hit a free throw for Northfield.
The third quarter was evenly played as Southwood out scored Northfield 8-7. Southwood had four players score two points each as they spread the ball around. Northifeld was lead by Sydney Eltzroth with two buckets, one being a three. Reed had the other bucket. Southwood lead 27-15 after three.
Eltzroth would hit to start the fourth quarter, closing the gap to 10 points. Abby Harness and White quickly answered with White converting an old fashion three to go up 32-17. White hit Southwood’s last bucket of the night to put the Lady Knights up 36-19. Northfield would close with buckets from Stephan and Michelle Hendricks for the 36-23 final.
Sarah White lead Southwood with 17 points. Abby Harness had 8, Ana Marie Farlow 4, Kaley Harness 3, plus Katelyn Smith and Jessica Pegg had 2 each.
For Northfield Sydney Eltzroth had 7 points, Katie Stephan 6, Sidney Reed 4, Michelle Hendricks 3, Morgan Peas 2 and Kylie Echard 1.
