Wabash Girls Continue Winning Ways

The Northfield Lady Norse came calling to Coolman gym Saturday night to pay a visit to county rival Wabash. The Lady Apaches are on a winning streak, just coming off a win over #5 Oak Hill. Would Wabash look past the youthful Norse, whom had won their last game over Caston ?

The Apaches came out very aggressive, while the Lady Norse looked a little scared. Kaleigh Hensley immediately scored for Wabash, but Northfield answered with a Sydney Eltzroth bucket. With the score at 6-, the Wabash full court pressure was more than the young Norse could handle. Behind Hensley, Kelsey Cromer and Lyndsie Thomas, Wabash would reel off 10 straight points to take a 16-4 lead. Sidney Reed would hit two free throws for Northfield at the end of the quarter as Wabash lead 16-6 after one.

Wabash, continuing to play their normal full court game, would continue to press, trapping the Norse and causing several turn overs and converting them in to points. The Lady Apaches would out score Northfield 16-5 in the quarter with Cromer scoring 10 points, hitting 3 buckets, one of them being a three pointer. The bright spot for the Norse was holding Hensley to just 2 points in the quarter. Wabash lead 32-11 at the half.

Wabash would hit the first two buckets of the second half, one a three from Kyleigh Hampton and build their lead to 37-11. Northfield would answer with buckets from Katie Stephan and Morgan Peas. At 40-15 Hensley and Cromer would go to work. Wabash would score the next 10 points to take a 50-15 lead. Hensley had 11 points in the quarter, while Cromer hit her second three of the night. Northfield would out score Wabash 5-2 to end the quarter with a three from Eltzroth. the third quarter ended 52-20.

Morgan Peas hit the first bucket of the final quarter for Northfield before Wabash would go on one last run. This time it was a 15-1 run to make the score 67-23. Hensley had 7 points during the run, while Cromer hit her third three and Hampton her second. Northfield, not willing to quit scored 6 more points before the buzzer with two buckets from Eltzroth and a free throw from Stephan and Alyssa Richter. The final score was 67-29.

Leading a balanced Wabash attack was Kaleigh Hensley with 26 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assist and 10 steals. Kelsey Cromer had 22 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assist and 6 steals. Kleigh Hampton had 8 points, 1 rebound, 1 assist and 1 block. Marin Hill had 5 points and 4 rebounds. Lyndsie Thomas had 4 points and 3 steals. Gabi Nearing had 2 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assist and 2 steals.

For Northfield Sydney Eltzroth had 12 points and 3 rebounds. Morgan Peas had 7 points, 9 rebounds and 3 steals. Sidney Reed had 5 points and 8 rebounds. Katie Stephan had 4 points, 2 assist and 2 steals. Alyssa Richter had 1 point, 1 assist and 1 steal.

Game totals :  Wabash shot 43% from the field, Northfield 29%. Free throws, Wabash 53%, Northfield 61%. Rebounds were even at 33. Turn overs, Wabash 14, Northfield 29.
