Southwood took on Manchester in the boys varsity consolation game Thursday. The Knights defeated Manchester 52-38.
Southwood took off to a fast 5-0 lead two Levi Winget buckets and a Devin Dale free throw and then Manchester took their turn with a 7-0 run. Austin Flack started the run with a bucket, followed by a Scott Baker free throw then another Flack bucket and one from Caleb Thomas to go up 7-5 with two minutes to go. Collin Huston would hit a three pointer to give the Knights the lead back before Baker and Jim Sainsbury connected to give Manchester an 11-8 lead at the end of the quarter.
Manchester started the second quarter hot, building their lead to 19-13 with a little over thre minutes to play. That’s when the Southwood offense and defense got hot. The Knights would go on a 12-0 run to end the half, taking a 25-19 lead. Connor Hobbs started the run with a three, followed by a Mike Cook free throw to cut the lead to two. After a time out Huston hit another three followed by a Cook Bucket and one from Winget at the buzzer.
Southwood would out score Manchester 15-10 in the third quarter. The Knights had a balanced scoring attack with four players scoring. Hobbs had five, including a three pointer. Flack lead Manchester with three points on a three pointer. Southwood lead 40-29.
Both teams had four players score in the fourth quarter. Southwood out scored Manchester 12-9. The Knights were lead by Codie Shafer with 6 and Manchester was lead by Flack with 4.
Levi Winget lead Southwood with 11 points. Connor Hobbs and Codie Shafer had 10 each. Collin Huston had 9, Mike Cook 7, Shane Smith 2 and Devin Dale 1.
Manchester was lead by Austin Flack and Scott Baker with 11 points each. Aric Howard had 6, Caleb Thomas and Jim Sainsbury 4 and Derek Self 2.
