Southwood Wins Girls Consolation

The Southwood Lady Knights had their hands full in repeating their performance against Northfield earlier in the season. The youthful Norse are gaining confidence and gave Southwood a scare in the consolation game of the county tourney. The game was much closer than the 34-26 final score.

Northfield came out of the gate being very scrappy, hitting the floor on every loose ball and build a quick 8-1 lead. Southwood, behind Sarah White chipped their way back in and trailed by only two 8-6 after the first quarter.

Northfield would again build the lead back up. Buckets from Michelle Hendricks and Katie Stephan to start the quarter put them back up 12-6. Again Southwood would fight their way back. Abby Harness went to work hitting a couple buckets to cut the lead to 12-11. Stephan hit two free throws for the Lady Norse before a Harness free throw and a White bucket tied the score at 14. Hendricks hit a Norse free throw to make it 15-14. Northfield would foul Jessica Pegg on a missed three point shot at the buzzer. Pegg missed her free throws and the Knights trailed at the half.

The third quarter was the turning point of the game. Southwood held Northfield scoreless in the quarter, scoring eight points of their own to build a seven point lead going to the final quarter. Harness had 4 points, White and Ana Marie Farlow 2 each.

The Northfield pressure picked back up to start the fourth quarter. Buckets from Morgan Peas and Reed cut the lead to three. After three points from Harness made it 25-19 the Norse made a push again. Buckets from Sydney Eltzroth and Stephan made it 25-23.  Again it was Harness with a free throw to stop the run. Eltzroth hit a free throw and a bucket from Reed forced a Southwood time out with the score tied at 26. White and Harness took over the last two minutes, scoring the next six points to seal the Southwood win.

Abby Harness lead Southwood with 15 points. Sarah White had 13, Ana Marie Farlow 3, Mollie Harnish 2 and Amy Bowman 1. Katie Stephan lead Northfield with 8 points.  Sydney Eltzroth had 7, Sidney Reed 6, Michelle Hendricks 3 and Morgan Peas 2.
