The Northfield Lady Norse were defeated by Tipp Valley Thursday night 46-40. It was a game of streaks for Northfield, falling behind and then coming back, just not being able to get over that hump of taking a lead and then building on it.
The first quarter started out with the lead changing five times before Valley took it good in the quarter and built it to 17-11 before the buzzer. Neither team had scored the first three minutes. Freshman Sidney Reed lead the Norse in the quarter scoring 5 points. Morgan Peas added 4 points.
Northfield’s offense went to work in the second quarter, out scoring Valley 12-7 to cut the lead to one at 24-23 by half time. Four players scored in the quarter lead by Sydney Eltzroth and Peas with 4 points each. Katie Stephan added 3 points and Shannon Brown scored a point.
Northfield come out of the half fired up and quickly took the lead on a bucket by Reed. Valley would fight back and eventually build a lead to 32-26. With Reed scoring 5 of the 6 points in the quarter, Northfield stayed within striking distance at 32-29 at the end of three quarters.
The game stayed tight through the first four minutes of the fourth quarter and Northfield actually tied the game at 39 with four minutes to go behind an Eltzroth three pointer and a bucket from Reed. Valley would then go on a 6-0 run to go up 45-39. Each team hit a free throw before the final buzzer with Valley winning 46-40.
Sidney Reed lead Northfield with 14 points, 5 rebounds and 1 steal. Morgan Peas had 9 points, 1 rebound, 1 steal and 1 assist. Sydney Eltzroth had 8 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assist and 1 steal. Katie Stephan had 5 points, 2 rebounds, 2 steals and 3 assists. Michelle Hendricks had 3 points, 2 rebounds and 3 assists. Shannon Brown had 1 point. Alyssa Richter had 2 rebounds and 1 steal.
