Knights Lose Barn Burner To Oak Hill

The Southwood Knight boys basketball team lost a barn burner to Oak Hill Monday night at Southwood 68-63.

After being delayed because of the snow last week, the Knights and Golden Eagles heated up the Southwood gym Monday night.

After the opening tip Oak Hill quickly built a 6-2 lead and looked as though they would take control of the game early. Mike Cook then canned a three and Connor Hobbs drained a two and all the sudden the Knights were up 7-6. Oak Hill would then go on an 8-0 run to take a 14-7 lead, forcing the Knights to take a time out. Coming out of the time out the Knights would fight all the way back, taking a 15-14 lead behind buckets from Cook,Collin Huston and Hobbs. Huston’s bucket was a three. Oak Hill would come back again to take the lead at 18-15. With 4.3 seconds remaining Devin Dale converted a three point play and it was tied at 18 at the end of one.

Oak Hill started the quarter with a three, but Cook quickly answered with his own three. Oak Hill would go up, Southwood would answer. Dale hit a two to tie the game the second time in the quarter. The theme stayed that way half way through the quarter. Just under five minutes to go, Hobbs canned a three to put Southwood up 28-27 and the Knights would build momentum off that and stretch the lead to 39-32 at the half.

OaK Hill would score the first six points of the third quarter to draw to within 39-38. Levi Winget hit and Oak Hill answered with a three to tie the score at 41. The score would be tied three more times before Oak Hill took it away from the Knights at 49-48. The Eagles built the lead to 51-48, but two Hobbs free throws cut it to one. Oak Hill built the lead again to three, when Winget hit right before the end of the quarter. Oak Hill lead 53-51 going in to the final quarter.

Hobbs hit a free throw and Cook a bucket to put Southwood up 54-53 early in the fourth. With 5:30 to go the game was tied and you knew it was going to be a nail biter. Oak Hill built the lead to 63-60 before Hobbs connected to draw the Knights within one with 2:14 to go. With 1:07 to go Cook hit a free throw that made it 65-63. The foul game would start the last 30.4 seconds and Oak Hill converted five of them to defeat the Knights 68-63.

Leading Southwood was Mike Cook with 22 points. Connor Hobbs had 18, Levi Winget 10, Collin Huston 6, Devin Dale 5 and Dalton Gentry 2.
