The Manchester Lady Squire basketball team stumbled against Rochester Saturday night, falling to the Zebra’s 46-37. The defense was solid, but the shooting was colder than it was out side. Manchester shot just 23.5% from two point land, 13.3 % from behind the arch and 42.3% from the free throw line.
Both teams had trouble finding the basket in the first quarter with just 17 total points being scored. Rochester lead 10-7 after one. Kayla Flack scored 4 points and Kaylee Watson hit a three pointer for 3 points.
Flack would hit a bucket to start the second quarter and cut the lead to 10-9. At 13-11 Watson hit another three pointer to give Manchester a 14-13 lead. Manchester would out score Rochester 11-10 in the quarter to trail just 20-18 at the half. Autumn Brewer and Hannah Little lead the Squires with 4 points each.
The game would stay tight for the first three minutes of the third quarter with Manchester calling time out with 5:09 to play, trailing by just 3, 24-21. Rochester stretched the lead to 27-21 before a free throw each from Little and Erika Milam. Manchester cut the lead to 31-28 after three Milam points, but then fouled Rochester with 3.4 seconds to go and the Zebras converted both free throws to lead 33-28 after three quarters.
Rochester scored the first four points of the fourth quarter to go up 37-28. Kayla Flack would go on a run of her own, scoring the next 6 points to pull Manchester to within three points at 37-34. Meika Kennedy hit a free throw with 3:16 to go to cut the Rochester lead to 37-35. Rochester would out score Manchester 9-2 the last three minutes for the 46-37 win.
Leading Manchester was Kayla Flack with 12 points and 8 rebounds. Kaylee Watson had 6 points and 4 rebounds. Hannah Little had 5 points, 10 rebounds and 1 steal. Erika Milam had 5 points, 8 rebounds and 2 steals. Autumn Brewer had 4 points and 5 rebounds. Kalene Freshour had 2 points, 3 rebounds and 3 steals. Bekah Brunn had 2 points. Meika Kennedy had 1 point, 7 rebounds, 4 assist and 1 steal.
