Northfield’s 7th Grade girls’ basketball team won against Southwood Tuesday night 24-17. Northfield is now 5-3 and 3-0 in the conference. Payton Thomson was the leading scorer of 17 points and 3 steals. Abby Keaffaber had 5 points and 5 steals. Sarah Driscoll and Paige Holley both finished the game with 1 point and were the leading rebounders. The Lady Norse were 11 of 16 from the free throw line.
For Southwood, Kelly Schmidt had 6 points. Emily Harnish had 5 points and Anna Rees added 4 points in the contest.
8th Grade by Steve Heath
The 8th Grade Lady Knights survived a strong effort from the Lady Norse to run their record to 7-0. Northfield got off to a good start and lead 8-4 after 1 quarter and 12-10 at halftime. The Knights charged out at halftime and had their best quarter of the night, outscoring the Norse 15-9 in the 3rd to take a 25-21 lead into the 4th. The Lady Knights played the last 1:40 with 3 key players out for fouls (the Norse lost one player to fouls as well) and made enough free throws themselves to pull out a hard fought 32 to 29 win. The Lady Knights are in the midst of the toughest part of their schedule and host Oak Hill on Wednesday before heading to traditional 3A power Northwestern on Thursday night.
Cherish Leming scored 12 points for Nortfhield on 8 of 11 from the free throw line. She also led in rebounding with 7. Cait Eltzroth scored 9 with 4 rebounds. Arie Kennedy and Cassidy Miller each scored 4.
