The Southwood Lady Knight basketball team was after it’s second three game win streak of the season Tuesday night and looked as though it would happen, but stumbled in the second half to fall to Southern Wells 50-38.
Ana Marie Farlow started the scoring for the game and the Lady Knights and the Knight defense was stifling, holding Southern Wells to just 4 points in the quarter to lead 8-4 after one quarter. Southwood had four players score in the quarter.
In the second quarter the Knight offensive balance took control again with four players scoring. Kaley Harness hit back to back buckets to get the offense going and then Sarah White and Jessica Pegg took it from there and Southwood lead 22-13 at half time.
Southern Wells came out of the half with a different look and scored the first nine points of the quarter to tie the score at 22. White finally got the Knights on the board to stop the run with 2 free throws to put Southwood back up 24-22. With 2:48 to go, Southern Wells took their first lead at 25-24 and stretched it to 28-24 before Farlow scored the last three points of the quarter to draw the Lady Knights back to within 28-27.
Abby Harness would start the quarter with a free throw to tie the score at 28. Southern Wells would then go on a 9-0 run as the Southwood defense started to stumble and built the lead to 37-28. Jessica Pegg stopped the bleeding with a bucket, but the Southern Wells offense had found their groove and built their lead to the final margin.
Sarah White lead the Lady Knights with 11 points and 4 assists. Abby Harness had 8
points and 10 rebounds. Jessica Pegg had 6 points and Kaley Harness added 5 points
and 3 steals. Ana Marie Farlow had 5 points. Mollie Harnish had 2 points. Amy Bowman also had 1 point and3 steals.
