The game was tight for three quarters and with a host of Norse coming off the flue bug just ran out of gas in the fourth quarter.
Northfield took off to a 5-0 lead before Rochester came back to tie the score at 11. Justin Parker hit to end the quarter and Northfield lead 13-11. The Norse had five players score in the quarter lead by Ryan Keaffaber with 4.
Ryan Givens got the Norse rolling to start the fourth with a bucket, but Rochester worked their way back to tie the score twice brfore taking the lead 23-21 and lead at the half 27-23. Givens scored 7 of Northfield’s 10 points.
Keaffaber quickly hit two buckets to start the third quarter to tie the score at 27. Rochester would then go on a 5-0 run to take a 32-27 lead and eventually 36-30. Keaffaber would hit another bucket, followed by Givens and it was 36-34 going to the final stanza.
This time it was Rochester who scored first, hitting the first two buckets to build the lead to 40-34. At 42-38 Rochester went on a 7-0 run to take a 49-38 lead and control of the game. Northfield would hit the next two buckets and cut the lead back to 49-43. With 1:03 left Northfield started fouling to get the ball back, but Rochester was up to the task at the free throw line for the 55-47 win.
Leading Northfield was Ryan Givens with 13 points and 8 rebounds. Ryan Keaffaber had 12 points and 6 rebounds. Justin Parker had 7 points, Collin Dawes 6, Chad Glasscock 5 and Joe Frieden 4.
