The #1 ranked Wabash Lady Apaches ended their regular season Thursday night with an impressive 72-22 win over Maconaquah. With not much time on the court because of the weekend and snow days both teams were a little rusty early, but Wabash found their legs in the second half and the race was on.
Both teams were a little rusty in the first quarter, missing some bunny shots but the Wabash pressure was to much for Maconaquah. Kyleigh Hampton got Wabash started and was quickly answered by the Lady Braves. Tied at 2 Wabash went on a 12-0 run and then out scored Maconaquah 5-4 the rest of the quarter for a 19-6 lead after one. Five players scored for the Lady Apaches, lead by Kaleigh Hensley with 7.
Wabash would out score Maconaquah 18-6 in the second quarter. Wabash was still struggling a little to find the bucket except for Kelsey Cromer. Cromer hit four buckets in the quarter for 9 points, one a three pointer. Hampton connected with two seconds remaining to give Wabash a 37-12 half time lead.
Wabash came out of the half looking like they had been injected with with some adrenaline, putting up 29 points in the quarter and again holding Maconaquah to just 6 points. Hensley canned a three pointer to get the Lady Apaches started and the offense was clicking. Hensley, the state’s leading scorer at 28.0 ppg would hit two more three’s and score 19 points in the quarter to give her 30 for the game after three. Hampton chipped in 5 points.
The JV players seen a lot of playing time in the fourth quarter, as coach Bumgardner pulled most of his starters after three quarters. Wabash still out scored Maconaquah 6-4 in the final stanza with Marin Hill leading with 3 points. Wabash had four players score in double figures and six players score in the game.
With the regular season coming to an end and sectional starting next week, the voice of 105.9 announcer Andy ” Mark” McCord says ” its time for win or go home.”
Leading Wabash was Kaleigh Hensley with 30 points, 6 rebounds. 2 assist and 3 steals. Kyleigh Hampton had 14 points, 7 rebounds, 2 steals and 3 blocks. Kelsey Cromer had 12 points, 6 rebounds, 10 assist and 2 steals. Marin Hill had 10 points, 7 rebounds and 5 steals. Gabi Nearing had 4 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 block. Kayelyn Vogel had 2 points and 1 rebound. Lyndsie Thomas had 3 rebounds and 2 assist. Hannah Mullett and Brittany Stone each had 1 rebound.
