The Northfield girls basketball team traveled to Peru Friday night to play the host Tigers and fell to Peru 45-38. The up and down offense of the young Norse faltered in one quarter again to cost Northfield the win.
Northfield came out at the start looking as though it would be the night everything was clicking. The Lady Norse out scored Peru 13-6 in the first quarter and looked determined to keep it going.
As good as the offense looked in the first quarter, it was just the opposite in the second putting up just 2 points and allowing Peru to score 13. The Lady Tigers lead 19-15 at the half.
Although the third quarter was not high scoring, Northfield managed to out score Peru 7-6 to give themselves a chance going in to the final quarter. Peru lead 25-22.
After two quarters of low scoring the Northfield offense found their game in the fourth, but unfortunately so did Peru. The Lady Tigers out scored Northfield 20-16 to hold Northfield off for the 45-38 win.
Leading Northfield was Sidney Reed with 13 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assist and 2 steals. Sydney Eltzroth had 10 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assist and 2 steals. Shannon Brown had 4 points, 2 rebounds and 1 assist. Alyssa Richter had 4 points and 1 rebound. Katie Stephan had 4 points, 4 rebounds and 2 steals. Morgan Peas had 3 points, 8 rebounds and 2 steals. Michelle hendricks had 1 assist and 1 steal.
Northfield shot just 29% from the field, 53% from the free throw line and committed 19 turn overs.
