Northfield Tops Manchester

The Northfield boys basketball team traveled to Manchester Friday night and came away with a 44-35 win over the host Squires.

Manchester took off to a quick 5-0 lead behind Austin Flack and Scott Baker and built the lead to 8-2 before watching Northfield score the next 7 points to take a 9-8 lead after one quarter. Justin Parker hit a three pointer, followed by two Ryan Givens free throws and a Ryan Keaffaber bucket during the run.

Northfield hit the first bucket of the second quarter, but Manchester quickly tied the score at 11. Northfield would then go on a 5-0 run before Flack stopped the bleeding with a three pointer. At 16-14 Dustin Echard hit two free throws and Parker hit to give Northfield a 20-14 lead at the half. Flack scored all 6 of Manchester’s points in the quarter.

The third quarter was played pretty even with Northfield out scoring Manchester 9-8. Collin Dawes and Chad Glasscock hit three’s for Northfield and Derek Self and Baker had 4 points each for Manchester. Northfield lead 29-22 at the stop.

Echard hit the first bucket of the quarter to put Northfield up 31-22 before Keaffaber and Baker started trading buckets. When the trading was done it was 39-30 with 1:30 to go. Flack and Logan Brunn hit with 1:10 to go to cut the lead to 39-35. Joe Frieden would score the next four points to put Northfield up 43-25. Keaffaber added one insurance free throw with 8.3 seconds remaining for the win.

Leading Northfield was Ryan Keaffaber with 9 points. Collin Dawes had 8, Justin Parker 7, Joe Frieden and Ryan Givens had 6, Dustin Echard had 5 and Chad Glasscock had 3.

For Manchester Scott Baker had 13 points. Austin Flack had 11, Logan Brunn had 5, Derek Self had 4 and Aric Howard had 2.
