Lady Squires Advance-Meet Wabash In Sectional Final

The Manchester Lady Squires played in the second semi final sectional game at Northfield Friday night, defeating Lewis Cass 45-33 to earn the right to play Wabash in the championship game Saturday night. The two teams have played twice this year with Wabash having the upper hand in both games, but you know what they say about beating a team three times.

Manchester tipped off against Cass and both teams looked a little nervy the first few minutes. Cass started the scoring with a free throw and then Manchester took over. Meika Kennedy hit to give the Squires the lead at 2-1 and was followed by a Kayla Flack bucket and two Kaylee Watson free throws to take a 6-1 lead. Flack would end the quarter with a bucket and Manchester lead 8-3 after one.

The second quarter was won by Cass, out scoring Manchester 11-9. Erika Milam kept the Squires up, hitting three buckets in the quarter. Watson had a three pointer. Manchester lead 17-14 at the half.

To start the third quarter things would get even tighter with Cass scoring the first three points to tie the score at 17. The game would be tied two more times in the next couple minutes before Manchester went on a run. Tied at 22 Flack would connect on a two and a three, followed by a bucket from Hannah Little and Manchester was up 31-22. Cass would start clawing their way back and the Lady Squires lead 31-28 after three. Flack had 10 points in the quarter.

Watson would start the scoring in the fourth quarter, but Cass answered to cut the lead to 33-31. Meika Kennedy would hit two free throws that were answered by a Cass bucket and then drained a three to put Manchester up 38-33 with 1:20 to go. The Manchester defense held, forcing Cass to foul. Milam calmly sank two free throws to put Manchester up 40-33 and the Squires would hit key foul shots the lady few seconds to secure the 45-33 win.

Leading Manchester was Kayla Flack with 15 points, 14 rebounds, 4 assist and 6 steals. Meika Kennedy had 11 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assist and 5 steals. Erika Milam had 8 points, 6 rebounds and 2 steals. Kaylee Watson had 7 points and 2 rebounds. Hannah Little had 2 points, 2 rebounds, 3 assist and 1 block. Kalene Freshour had 2 points, 3 rebounds and 5 steals.Malyssa Bedke had 1 assist.
