Southwood Falls To Madison Grant

Saturday, Feb 12th

The Southwood Knight boys basketball team fell to a very balanced Madison Grant team Saturday 85-76.

Madison Grant came out of the gate swinging, taking an 8-0 lead before Southwood knew what hit them. The knights would gather their composure and behind Dalton Gentry’s three buckets cut the lead to 10-6. The Knights couldn’t get their offense rolling and Madison Grant built the lead to 24-14 by the end of the quarter.

Connor Hobbs started the second quarter with a bucket to cut the lead to 8 before Madison Grant would make a run, building the lead to 20 and hold it until Hobbs hit again, this time a three pointer to cut the lead to 37-20. Southwood kept the momentum with three consecutive buckets by Levi Winget, Hobbs and a three from Collin Huston to make it 37-27. Madison Grant would out score the Knights 10-8 the rest of the quarter and lead 47-35 thanks to a three from Hobbs at the buzzer.

Madison Grant would score the first 6 points of the third quarter to make it 53-35. Mike Cook hit three buckets and a three point play from Gentry cut it back to 55-43. With the score 59-45 the Knights would show their heart, scoring 10 of the last 12 points of the quarter to draw within 61-55. Cook had 10 points in the quarter.

Cook would hit the first bucket of the fourth quarter to make it 61-57 and take over the Knight offense, scoring 15 in the quarter but it looked as though the Knights were losing their legs trying to play catch up the entire game. Madison Grant’s shooting never cooled, shooting 68% from the floor and 75% from the free throw line to keep their lead and win 85-76.

Leading Southwood was  Mike Cook with 34 points. Connor Hobbs had 16, Dalton Gentry 11, Collin Huston 7, Levi Winget 6 and Codie Shafer 2
