Norse Lose Heart Breaker In Regional Championship

The #6 Northfield baseball season came to an end Monday, losing a heart breaking 1-0 decision to #2 Taylor in the championship of the Wabash regional.

It looked as though the Norse might take control early. After starting pitcher Ryan Keaffaber retired Taylor in order in the 1st the Norse mounted a small rally in the bottom of the inning. Adam House led off with a single up the middle and was followed by a perfectly placed bunt single by Tanner Chamberlain. The Norse could not advance the runners and squandered a chance to go up early.

For the next two innings both pitchers dominated with the only base runner being a Hunter Wells walk.

In the 4th, Taylor would score the games only run which was aided by a controversial call. With a runner on 1st, left hand pitcher Ryan Keaffaber was called for a balk by the 3rd base umpire which moved the runner to 2nd. The next Taylor batter singled to drive in the run.

The Norse just couldn’t solve the Taylor pitching, grounding out three times in the 4th and striking out 3 times in the 5th.

In the 6th with two outs Peyton Ross singled up the middle to give the Norse some hope, but Andy Roser grounded out, which was the 6th ground out of the game for Northfield and the Norse were left with one more shot.

In the 7th after Ryan Keaffaber and Joseph Ross hit fly ball outs, Austin Keen drew a walk for that one last hope. Austin Curless struck out on a hit and run and the Norse season came to a screeching halt.

Peyton Ross, Adam House and Tanner Chamberlain had the three Norse hits.

Ryan Keaffaber pitched 7 innings, giving up 1 run on 6 hits and striking out 6.

Northfield finished the season 25-6.

The Norse were TRC runner ups and the Wabash sectional champions.
