In what looked like it was going to be a good Thursday night for Northfield volleyball, the Lady Norse were swept by a very good Madison Grant team 25-19, 25-11, 25-17. Madison Grant went to the semi-state last year and it looked as though the talent is still there for another run.
In game one the Lady Norse started out strong taking a quick 3-0 lead before Madison Grant would run off 5 straight points of their own to lead 5-3. The Lady Argylls kept the 3 point lead until Kendall Reed served Northfield back even at 9. Northfield took the lead at 13-12 with Bayli Birk serving and built it to 17-13. Again Madison Grant came back tying the score at 17. The powerful Argyll front line took over and led a 12-2 run to defeat the Lady Norse 25-19.
For the second game in a row Northfield took the lead first, this time on a Hayley Walchle kill. Up 1-0 the Lady Norse started to self destruct and Madison Grant took advantage of it, building the lead to 13-2 before a Norse time out. The time out didn’t slow the Argylls any as they built a 20-7 lead. The two teams played even the rest of the game with Madison Grant winning 25-11.
Game three started out just as game two did with a Walchle kill. Northfield would build a 5-2 lead behind Walchle and Kylie Echard before the Argylls went on another run. Madison Grant would score the next 9 points and take an 11-5 lead. The lead stayed at ten points until an Echard kill made it 24-16. The Argylls went on to win 25-17.
Northfield plays in the Tom-A-Hawk classic at North Miami Saturday and returns home Tuesday to host Warsaw.
