Knights Stumble Against Southern Wells

The Southwood emotions were up and down like a yo yo Friday night vs Southern Wells. The Raiders have been dominate the past few years and the young Knights were testing the waters and a new offense to see if they could copmpete.

After receiving the kick off and stalling on their first possesion, Southwood punted and it appeared the Southern Wells receiver touched the ball on its downward flight to the ground. The Knights recovered, but the officials called a no touch and it was the Raiders ball. Southern Wells marched down the field and scored with 6:13 remaining to make it 7-0. The Knight offense stalled again and the Raider march began. Time ran out in the quarter with Southern Wells on the 19 yard line threatening again.

Just 8 seconds in to the quarter the Raiders punched it across again and led 13-0. Trying to rebound Southwood started to mount a drive. After a pass to Isaac Peebles took the Knights to the Raider 29, another pass to Levi Winget put it on the 21. On 4th and 1 the Knights fumbled the snap and the drive stalled. Southwood got the ball right back on a fumble recovery. The Knights marched down the field and with 7:52 to go Connor Hobbs connected with Levi Winget for a 16 yard scoring strike. The Knight defense held and the Hobbs to Winget assult started again taking the ball to the 3 before Will Adams ran it in. With 2:49 to go the Knights trailed just 13-12. Southern Wells used a hurry up offense and with 10.3 seconds left in the half scored the back breaking touch down. The score was controversial again as it looked as though the quarterback was well past the line of scrimmage when he threw the strike. Again a no call and the raiders led 21-12 at the half.

The third quarter was totally dominated by Southern Wells racking up 19 points in the quarter to lead 40-12 after 3. The Southwood offense stalled three times and the Southern Wells offense was clicking.

Each team would score one touch down in the 4th quarter. The Knight score came with 5:30 to go when Hobbs ran it in for a TD and Joey Goff kicked the extra point. The final score was 47-19.
