Lady Norse Knock Off Comets In Four

The Northfield Lady Norse volleyball team raised their record to 5-4 Monday night with a 25-6, 25-18, 20-25, 25-23 win over Eastern at Greentown.

The Norse come out in game one clicking on all cylinders, quickly taking an 8-1 lead. Bayli Birk started the game with two aces and Kylie Echard domintaed the net with three kills and a block to open the early lead. After an Eastern point Elaina Terrell got in on the action with two kills and an ace to make it 14-4. Keeping the pressure on Kendall Reed had two kills and Emily Shafer two aces to dominate game one, 25-6.

In game two behind two Echard kills the Lady Norse went up 4-1 to start the game. Eastern climbed their way back in to the game, tying the score 5-5. Haley Walchle took her turn with the kills, adding three to make it 10-6. Eastern would cut the lead to 17-16 before Birk had a tip to give the Norse a two point lead. Walchle would take over the last few points with a block and two kills for the 25-18 win and a 2-0 lead.

Again in game three the Norse would take an early lead, going up 4-1. At that point the momentum was lost and the Lady Norse quickly found themselves down 6-5. Eastern would reel off five more points in a row to make it 11-5. Walchle, Echard and Terrell tried to keep the Norse in the game at the net, all with kills but Eastern would not be denied. At 22-16 Northfield made a small run to make it 22-19 but could not dig out of the hole they had dug and lost game three 20-25.

With Eastern now having the momentum they would build the lead in game four, going up 11-4 before Northfield called time out. Shafer had an ace, sandwiched between to kills each from Walchle and Reed and Northfield was back in the game, trailing just 14-11. Reed stayed hot with three kills and an ace from Walchle and a kill from Echard put the Norse up 16-14. Northfield would build the lead to 21-16, forcing Eastern to take a time out. Northfield would calmly build the lead to 24-18 before Eastern reeled off five straight points to make it 24-23. Walchle would end the game with a kill and the lady Norse survived 3 games to 1.

Kylie Echard had 18 kills, 2 digs and 3 blocks. Haley Walchle had 14 kills, 6 service points, 5 digs and 2 blocks. Elaina Terrell had 7 kills, 3 assist, 2 aces, 9 service points and 2 digs. Kendal Reed had 7 kills, 2 aces, 16 service points and 18 digs. Tori Snyder had 5 kills, 3 assist and 5 digs. Bayli Birk had 2 kills, 41 assist. 2 aces, 11 service points and 6 digs. Morgan Tucker had 1 kill, 1 assist and 6 digs. Gentry Kline had 1 assist and 20 digs. Emily Shafer had 4 aces, 16 service points and 13 digs.
