Rage Blank Grant County

The Metro Rage Boys soccer
team defeated Grant County United 5-0 last evening at the Morrett Sports
Complex. Chad Glasscock (NHS) opened the scoring at the 14 minute mark on a
header he smashed home off of a Houston Miller (NHS) corner kick. A minute later
Glasscock returned the favor with a corner kick that Grant Keaffaber (SHS)
headed towards the goal. A scrambled ensued when the ball deflected off of
several players before Houston Miller stuck the ball in the back of the net.

The Rage took a 2-0 lead into the intermission but waited only four
minutes to score their third goal of the night. Cody Gibson (NHS) scored his
first career goal on a Glasscock corner kick. Miller added another goal at the
66 minute mark and Glasscock finished the scoring a minute later on an assisted
goal by Miller.

Eric Foltz had 4 saves in goal before Julian Hobson
(WHS) replaced him. Glasscock and Trey Eads (NHS) were each credited with a
defensive save for clearing a ball off of the goal line in the second half.

“I was very pleased with the play of our seniors tonight” Coach Jeff
Hobson commented after the game. “I talked with the eight senior players before
the game and challenged them to come out play hard for 80 minutes. I felt like
each and every one of them play exceptionally well tonight. Obviously Chad,
Houston and Grant get lots of touches due to their position, but I felt like our
senior defenders and goalie played unbelievable.” Hobson went on to say that
“guys like Nick Striker, Cody Gibson, Ethan Stouffer and Thomas McHaney don’t
get much appreciation as defenders but they only gave up four shots on goal all
night. It makes Eric’s job as a goalie alot easier” Hobson also lauded the play
of Junior defensive sweeper Jonathan VanDuyne saying that “Jonathan cleans up
alot of our mistakes as a sweeper. It allows Nick and Cody a little more freedom
to push up and be a part of the offense.”

The Rage are 3-0 on the
season. They travel to Fort Wayne next week to play the Fort Wayne Fusion.

The Lady Rage tied 1-1 with Oak Hill last evening. Cassidy Sausaman
