The Southwood 8th grade volleyball team captured the Running Rivers Conference Championships Saturday by defeating Rochester, 25-22, 25-17; North Miami 25-11, 25-14 and Northfield 25-19, 25-16. On the day, Danielle Pegg had 22 service points and 14 aces. Bailey Hobbs had 22 service points. Delayne Gentry had 16 service points. Anna Rees had 10 service points and Emilie Harnish added 9 service points for the 8th grade who finish the 2011 season with a 21 and 5 mark.
Northfield finished as runner-up. For Northfield, Cortney Pennington had 28 service points. Paige Holley had 17 service points, 16 attacks. Payton Thomson also added 13 attcks. Carlie England and Liz Howenstine each had 8 attacks. The Lady Norse finished their season 13-3.
The Southwood 7th grade brought their season to an end on Saturday
as they fell to Rochester in the opening round of the RRC Championships, 14-25, 22-25. Brooke Elliott had 7 service points and 2 aces. Bailey Smith 5 service points and an ace. Makenna Dawes had 4 service points and Erica Guyer and Ashley Parson added 2 points each for the 12 and 11 7th graders.
The Northfield 7th grade lost to Wabash in the opening round 22-25, 14-25.
Best server was Alexis Taylor with a total of 6 serves, 3 of them being aces. Hailey Bone also did a great job serving serving a total of 5 serves, with 2 aces. The best passer of the day was Jordan Bratch with a total of 7. Ashlie Koch also had some great attacks today.
